Short film research: Welcome to Bushwick/ Horror genre


The short film Welcome to Bushwick had many conventions that helped establish the horror genre. These conventions occur mainly in horror films. The establishing shot showed a two people talking in a dark room. This was a dark setting which created suspense for the audience. Then an eyeline match is shown as well as an over the shoulder shot. This shows the guy and girl talking uncomfortably which hints to the audience they don't know each other personally. The dialogue in the film was of the girl and guy talking. After a zoom was shown which zoomed into the drink the guy was pouring. While this was happening, a non diegetic sound with creeping music was playing. This scene was intriguing for audience because we didn't know what was happening. This was very suspenseful for the audience. Right after this a reverse shot and close up of the lady jumping out behind the guy was shown. This scared the audience because of the makeup and props like used for this scene. The guy ran to the bathroom after the cutaway shot. During the scene of him in the bathroom sound motif was happening with the door noise trying to be unlocked, the screaming and panting of the guy, and the phone ringing. The guy was in shocked. In this scene a zoom was showing the door trying to be opened by the lady. A medium shot was showing his look on his face. It allowed the audience to see his emotions and how he feels in that moment.

  This film starts of with a diegetic sound. This is of a little girl coughing and struggling to breath. A two-shot of the mother and daughter are showing her struggling to breath and the mom trying to help. Over the shoulder shot is then shown looking at the daughter while the mother is talking to her. She is nodding her head no since she can't speak back. Her mom is saying she will be back. The dialogue and non diegetic sound of the creepy music intrigued the audience and made the film more suspenseful. A tracking shot caught the women falling down the stairs and falling. A dark figure was shown in a costume to be the demon of the film. This caused a element of terror. Birds eye angle was shown when the demon was following the Mom to make her look vulnerable.    First scene- During this scene we will be filming the guy and the soon to be ex arguing back and forth on the phone. This will be taken place in two different settings. The cuts will be going back and forth between the two of them on the phone. Second scene- The next scene will be filmed in a room and the main actress will be on her computer doing her school work. She will have headphones in. She's all upset so her bestfriend that is with her at the moment tries to cheer her up by bringing in ice cream but she pushes it away. Third scene- This scene will also be filmed in her room. She starts to look at herself and sees how she is always in t-shirts and never dressed nice. Fourth scene- This scene cuts to the ex and what she is doing in her life. This scene will show her all her and her friends dressed up nicely and sizing everyone thinking they are better everyone. Production blog; finishing filming

Last week was spring break so we decided it was a good time to finish filming our last scenes. It was easy since we had no school and our schedules were more open than usual. We had a few scenes to film at the resurant Paige works at. When it was dark we starting filming since we needed it to be night time for our scenes. We started off with the indoor scenes first, Ella was sitting at a booth. We picked a section that was the most empty to not disturb the customers. Ella was texting her date that she was waiting at the restuant for. We had to zoom in on her phone and have different angles of her texting her date. We made sure to re-shoot this scene a few times to have it right. Next we had to wait for no customers to be at the front so we could do the scene of the girls walking up to the hostess.
